The Mokens are about 5000 to live along Burma and Thailand’s coasts. They belong to these people of the sea scattered in the Insulindian archipelago and whose total number is around 30 000 people. Their remarkable flexibility and adaptability, as well as the protection afforded by remote islands, have allowed them to preserve a way of life that is now under threat.
Mokens are sea nomads. They travel in little convoy from one island to another. They are living quite permanently on theirs boats endowed of mobile roof; they have a strong resistance to sedentariness. During winter-time Mokens live in villages of Mergui archipelago, 400 km along Thai’s and Burma’s coasts.
